Sheet Metal Fabricator/Fitter
Contribute to the delivery of bespoke, high‑quality helicopter solutions through complex prototype development, retrofits, and series production. Develop and manufacture detailed parts from sheet metal to aviation standards within a workshop or hangar, assemble components, and work closely with the design team on prototype work.
Responsibilities
* Accomplish work as directed by the Installation Supervisor or Certifying Engineer
* Manufacture detailed parts from sheet metal
* Inspect parts manufactured by subcontractors for compliance with engineering drawings
* Assemble parts manufactured by subcontractors
* Apply protective coatings
* Work closely with the design team to ensure all parts comply with design data and maintain safe aircraft operation
* Work individually or as part of a team, depending on specific work packages
* Assist in the day‑to‑day running of the hangar, including aircraft handling
* Maintain high housekeeping standards in line with the Airbus “Clean As You Go” initiative
* Operate in a highly regulated environment and carry out repairs to helicopter structures and components
* Adapt to changing priorities within the departments
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Ability to work as part of a team, and independently, upholding high standards for safe aircraft operation
* Read and understand detailed engineering drawings and associated data
* Good manual hand skills and interest in DIY
* Ability to work in confined spaces and maintain composure under pressure
* Strong communication skills and methodical, highly detailed organisation
* Adhere to H&S requirements and wear the appropriate PPE for each task
* Proficient use of Google Office and Microsoft products
* Minimum Level 2 qualification in Fabrication
* Photographic record of work experience in a similar role (Sheet Metal Working, Metal Fabrication, Mechanical Fitter or Automotive repair)
* Clean driving licence
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Manufacturing techniques for sheet‑metal parts to close tolerance standards
* Fastener types used to assemble sheet‑metal and components in aviation (rivets, mechanical fasteners, adhesive bonding)
* Knowledge of SAP / Envision systems
* Aviation experience and knowledge of composites
* Experience in a range of sheet‑metal fabrication methods
Education, Qualifications or Training
* Minimum Level 2 qualification in Fabrication
* Examples of work produced via a photographic record
Additional Requirements
* DBS Security Clearance and eligibility for SC clearance required
* All candidates must possess the current, legal right to work in the United Kingdom
* Applicants must meet all Export Compliance Regulations requirements
* Shift working may be required as part of a normal working pattern; shift allowance payable
* Occasional travel to subcontractors or Airbus facilities including overseas may be required
