About the apprenticeship
Duties
The Commis Chef role will support senior chefs by preparing ingredients, cooking dishes, and maintaining a clean and organised kitchen. They will learn essential cooking techniques, food safety practices, and how to work efficiently under pressure. This will be hands-on experience, providing the skills and knowledge necessary to progress in the culinary industry. It’s an excellent opportunity for those passionate about food and eager to build a foundation for a career in hospitality.
We are looking for a hardworking and reliable person to join our small kitchen team in our busy dining pub. We are a small group of independent pubs, with a strong focus on seasonal and local produce with a daily-changing menu, with everything made from scratch.
We are on the lookout for someone enthusiastic and determined, with good focus, to work in busy services and prep shifts. You will also gain experience in managing food stock, preparing ingredients, and ensuring health and safety standards are met. A love of good, locally sourced food and knowledge of seasonal ingredients is appreciated. There is potential for training to progress further up the kitchen team for the right person who has a passion for good food.
Additional information
At the Hare & Hounds, we serve good quality food and drinks in relaxed and informal surroundings. First and foremost, our pub is a thriving local watering hole that has been keeping locals’ thirst at bay for over 300 years. We still do exactly that, with great ales, interesting wines and homemade seasonal drinks.
Alongside the bar, we offer a small, daily changing, seasonal menu in our dining room. We use the very best produce that the Vale of Glamorgan has to offer. We have some of the most productive soil in the UK, which gives us meat, game and vegetables of the highest quality. The produce available to us from the best Vale producers, our own kitchen garden and our smallholding, dictate what is on the menu from day to day.
Everything is made from scratch in our kitchen, from our own sourdough bread and cultured butter, to fresh pasta. This is not pretentious fine dining; its just about good food, whether you’ve been for a long walk with your dog or have got something to celebrate. It is a type of regional Welsh cooking.
We are the proud holder of a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide, and we’re featured in The Good Food Guide, the Good Pub Guide and the Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide.
