Do you have experience supporting children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs? We’re working with a specialist school in Gateshead who are looking for a skilled Teaching Assistant to join their team full-time.
This role is about more than classroom support. You’ll be a trusted adult for pupils who need calm, consistency, and encouragement to reach their potential. Your ability to build strong, positive relationships will be just as important as your classroom skills.
What the role involves:
* Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
* Supporting teachers to deliver engaging, structured lessons
* Helping pupils to manage behaviour, build confidence, and develop resilience
* Working closely with the wider SEN team to adapt strategies and resources
* Creating a safe and supportive learning environment where every pupil feels valued
We’re looking for someone who:
* Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
* Brings patience, empathy, and strong behaviour management skills
* Can stay calm under pressure and adapt to different situations
* Works well as part of a team and is committed to pupil progress
