Operations Manager – Contracting / PAVE
North West & Yorkshire
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager with a proven background managing teams within the road surfacing sector to lead our PAVE Contracting operations across the North West and Yorkshire region.
This senior leadership role is accountable for delivering the local Operational Strategy, maximising financial performance, ensuring exemplary health & safety standards and developing high-performing operational teams within a complex, commercially driven environment.
The Role
You will lead area operations teams to deliver safe, efficient and profitable surfacing contracts, ensuring alignment to business strategy, budgets and performance targets. You will drive operational excellence, continuous improvement and strong client relationships while developing talent and future leadership capability.
Experience within the road surfacing/asphalt contracting sector is essential.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver the Area Operational Strategy, achieving budget, forecast and performance targets
2. Maximise contract profitability through effective cost control, value optimisation and risk management
3. Ensure full compliance with health & safety, quality and business standards
4. Lead operational and commercial reviews, including pre- and post-contract evaluations
5. Develop turnover, volumes and long-term work bank in support of commercial teams
6. Build and maintain strong customer and supply chain relationships
7. Drive operational efficiency, best practice sharing and One CRH collaboration
8. Lead, coach and develop operational teams, driving engagement and performance
9. Support dispute resolution, cash collection and contractual compliance
10. Promote sustainability, carbon reduction and net zero initiatives

What We’re Looking For
16. Significant operational leadership experience within road surfacing / asphalt contracting
17. Proven experience managing multiple construction contracts and teams at scale
18. Strong track record in commercial performance, cost control, operational delivery and risk management
19. Strong product, technical and operational knowledge relevant to Contracting sector
20. Sound knowledge and experience of estimating, costing systems, QA and company procedures
21. NEBOSH or IOSH Health & Safety qualification
22. HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent industry experience
