About the role
1. As a member of the Commercial team, the UK Project Manager/Director will report to the Managing Director of LanzaTech UK, and will assume a key role in the planning, development, and execution of the company’s strategic objectives in the UK and beyond.
2. As Project Manager, you will lead, develop, execute, and implement exciting, new-to-the-world projects involving the production and supply of sustainable chemicals and fuels, both for internal LanzaTech projects and for LanzaTech customers.
3. Initial focus will be on executing LanzaTech’s Project Dragon in the UK, a commercial-scale waste to SAF facility that has significant funding from the Department for Transport; however, there will be growing opportunities to manage other projects in the UK and EU (and even globally) across a diverse range of industries.
4. Responsible for all phases of the Project Dragon lifecycle from first concept through to fully operating commercial-scale facilities, this position will lead multiple sub-projects and initiatives at any given time. Initial focus will be on leading Planning & Permitting activities, as well as Site and Off-Plot Development activities for Project Dragon
5. Coordinating with a cross-functional global team is essential to ensure that robust project management processes are followed, resulting in timely and accurate project execution.
6. This role will also guide on all disciplines (BD, technology, engineering, legal, finance, etc) assigned to projects and be the focal point between LanzaTech and external partners responsible for engineering design, planning, permitting, regulatory, logistics, financing, procurement, and construction.
7. Ideally you would have rich experience in project management, especially with engineering and construction projects in the energy, biotechnology, chemicals and/or fuels sectors, with a background in chemical engineering or chemistry.
8. As you manage new and exciting projects, you will work alongside internal technical and business development teams, customers, external partners, central and local governments, and engineering contractors. You will be responsible for planning, optimizing, and executing complex multimillion-pound projects, for which you will be accountable for on-time and cost-effective delivery.
9. The UK Project Manager/Director will have direct responsibility for external project communications and full responsibility for management of internal activities with minimal supervision/guidance in coordination with the LanzaTech management team.
10. This position is responsible for managing cost/capex, project scope, and schedule, and requires significant and detailed understanding of project financials analyses, resource allocation, change order management, scheduling, and reporting out to internal and external stakeholders.
11. Occasionally, this position requires traveling to client and vendor facilities as required for meetings, reviews, and client support.
Key duties
12. Manage projects from conception to completion with a keen focus on exceeding LanzaTech and client expectations
13. Identify and align with LanzaTech and client goals, objectives, and expectations
14. Professionally manage internal/client communication and problem resolution
15. Liaise with project partners and government monitoring officers on grant-funded projects
16. Direct internal project resources, coordinate meetings, and produce project reports
17. Ensure project documentation and deliverables meet internal and client specifications
18. Manage project budgets, schedules, risk registers and cost expenditures to ensure contractual requirements are met
19. Accurately forecast project duration and resource requirements
20. Manage and review change order impacts on project budget and schedule
21. Initiate and manage subcontracted projects for engineering, fabrication of modules, piping, structural steel and vessels, and other services such as painting, insulation and E&I work
22. Ensure fabricated equipment meets internal/client specifications and regulatory requirements
23. Travel to client facilities and plant sites for meetings, project reviews, and equipment inspections
24. BS in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or comparable engineering discipline
25. 10+ years of project execution and project management experience
26. Proven experience managing multimillion-dollar design and construction projects
27. Skilled in MS Office suite and MS Project
28. Excellent interpersonal (written and oral) skills, possessing a high degree of professionalism and customer service
29. Able to demonstrate effective coordination, planning and organizational skills.
30. Demonstrated leadership, negotiation, and relationship building skills
31. Proven experience in managing and evaluating equipment suppliers, engineering firms, and subcontractors to ensure project schedule, budget, and quality requirements are met
32. Experience with quality control protocols throughout project execution
33. Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative, work independently and in a team environment.
34. Ability to apply project management fundamentals and industry best practices to solve problems
35. Proactively support continuous improvement processes by developing and recommending changes
36. Prioritize, organize and effectively manage project team's work
37. Assist business development, engineering, and other teams with technical recommendations
38. Provide leadership to the project execution team
39. Ability to work legally in the UK
40. A valid passport is required for any international travel
Preferred/Valued
41. Experience with oil & gas, fermentation, process development, and/or process operations in a bioprocessing facility
42. Experience licensing technology, and executing projects with technology licensors and/or EPC companies
43. Prior plant engineering, construction, commissioning and start-up experience
44. Track record of taking on big challenges and striving to change the world

Work Environment
47. Able to work remotely and in a general office environment
48. Up to 30% of travel is required, majority within the UK. Some travel may be required for extended periods to support projects during peak periods.
