Job Advertisement: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: London Borough of Hackney Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only Salary: £100 - £120 per day Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you have the experience and resilience to work with young people who may face challenges such as trauma, poverty, social anxieties, panic disorders, and behavioural difficulties? About the Role PS Inclusion are always looking for a committed and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants in the London Borough of Hackney for PRU, SEMH or MS School settings, to work full-time during term time. You will play a crucial role in supporting children who may display verbal or physical aggression and require a calm, patient, and understanding approach to help them thrive. Key Responsibilities: Provide tailored 1:1 and group support to children with SEMH needs. Build trusting relationships with pupils to promote their emotional well-being and resilience. Support children in developing coping strategies and managing anxieties or challenging behaviours effectively. Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and external agencies to deliver consistent and nurturing support. Assist in creating and maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment. Implement strategies to de-escalate situations of aggression or heightened emotions, ensuring the safety and well-being of all pupils and staff. Contribute to the development and implementation of Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs) and other supportive documentation. Promote inclusion and positive behaviour through role modelling and supportive interventions. About You To be successful in this role, you will need: Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs in a school, youth work, or mental health setting. Confidence in managing and supporting children who may display verbal or physical aggression. A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to challenging situations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with pupils and colleagues. An understanding of the impact of trauma, poverty, and mental health issues on children's behaviour and learning. A commitment to inclusion and a passion for helping young people overcome barriers to education. Desirable: Training in de-escalation strategies or behaviour management (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA).
