GSTT Armed Forces Welfare Officer

The post-holder is responsible for providing holistic welfare support to ensure programme outputs are delivered effectively. They lead the Armed Forces Programme, manage day‑to‑day delivery, performance, and risk mitigation across the welfare spectrum, and work collaboratively with clinicians, managers and external stakeholders to deliver effective patient and staff experiences.
Main duties of the job
* Provide welfare management expertise to the Armed Forces community and brief trust staff on responsibilities when patients belong to this community.
* Work in an agile manner supporting programme and organisational priorities.
* Communicate delivery progress and provide scheduled highlight and exception reports tracking patient pathways.
* Maintain meticulous records and deliver data and reports in a timely manner, demonstrating return on investment to agencies.
* Organise and monitor welfare resources to ensure effective use while meeting programme objectives.
* Identify safeguarding issues promptly and report concerns regarding children or vulnerable adults to the appropriate agencies.
* Support evaluation and audit of welfare data across all sites linked to the programme.
* Provide rapid, solution‑driven responses in crisis situations.
* Process referrals, assessing welfare needs of service users with professionalism, compassion and sensitivity.

Person Specification
Armed Forces Community Background
* Previous military or UK Armed Forces community experience.
* Proven experience managing Service Users with significant responsibility.
* Military/Civilian welfare qualification.
* Experience working within the Military and Armed Forces community in a welfare environment.
Previous Armed Forces Community team skills
* Experience dealing with a range of welfare issues.
* Welfare/patient case management including pathway building and signposting knowledge.
IT and data capture experience
* Demonstrable experience of data collection, presentation and report writing.
* Experience in a support role within the Military and Armed Forces community.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This post requires a Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
Contract and Remuneration
Fixed term – 12 months, full‑time. Salary £38,487.60 to £46,851.60 a year (incl HCA).
