Salary: £28.2k per annum (increase to £31.3k upon successful completion of probationary period)
Gas Engineer Assistant
Start date: September 2026

Responsibilities
- Support engineers on site, learning during gas service and mains repair activities
- Excavate, dig public and private highways, and lay and repair gas pipes in various outdoor environments as part of a team
- Participate in essential works to maintain gas supply, including standby and overtime for irregular hours
- Maintain SGN vans and tools before and after each job, ensuring safe and efficient operation
Qualifications and Requirements
- Strong desire to develop skills and continuously learn
- Resilience and ability to bounce back from challenges
- Initiative, ownership, and accountability for service delivery
- Calmness and adaptability in public-facing, shift‑based environments
- Willingness to work a rota with weekends and nights (24/7, 365 days a year)
- Clean‑shaven with a valid face‑fit test, and ability to use dust masks and breathing apparatus
- Full, valid UK driver’s licence
- Based within a commutable distance from the desired locations due to operational response times
