As an AI Backend Services Engineer at Labster you will be instrumental in building robust backend services that leverage AI capabilities (particularly LLM APIs) to enhance personalized adaptive tutoring in immersive learning experiences. Youll play a pivotal role in designing implementing and scaling services that integrate with AI providers and automation tools to deliver educational content effectively contributing significantly to Labsters mission to empower 100 million students globally with personal AI tutors that dramatically advance equal access to high-quality science and healthcare education.

Responsibilities
Stay Abreast of Generative AI Developments: Keep up with emerging AI and NLP technologies to improve learning experiences.
* Build AI-Powered Backend Services: Design scalable backends integrating LLM APIs (OpenAI Anthropic Gemini etc.) to power adaptive learning.
* Service Architecture & Development: Manage the full backend lifecycle API design architecture deployment monitoring and optimization for external AI service dependencies.
* AI Service Integration: Connect and optimize multiple AI services with rate limiting caching and cost-efficient abstractions.
* Collaborate with Educational Experts & Developers: Translate educational needs into robust backend solutions.
* Develop and Document APIs: Build and maintain well-documented APIs for internal and external developer use.
* Collaborate with the Data Team: Work with Data Engineers and Analysts to align backend systems with analytics and internal tools.
* Data-Driven Product Improvements: Use educational and performance data to inform and enhance product features.
Competencies & Skills
* 3 years backend development experience (.NET and )
* Strong experience with RESTful APIs service architectures and event-driven systems
* Proven experience integrating AI / LLM service APIs and prompt engineering
* Experience with Cloud providers Azure or AWS
* Strong understanding of distributed systems
* Experience with rate limiting retry strategies and third-party service dependencies
* Experience with working with Unity game teams is a plus
* Excellent problem-solving system design and communication skills
* Ability to evaluate and integrate emerging AI tools and services
* Excellent analytical problem-solving and collaborative skills.
* Strong communication abilities. Be able to communicate complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
* Be able to self-learn and coach team members.
