Equipment & Facilities Engineer - Manufacturing & Automation
Role Overview
The Equipment & Facilities Engineer is a hands-on engineering role responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of production equipment and site facilities within a high-technology manufacturing environment. Working on a rotating double-day shift pattern, you will support continuous production by delivering high-quality planned and reactive maintenance while actively driving equipment optimisation and reliability improvements.
This position offers broad exposure to advanced automated systems, complex tooling, and critical facility infrastructure, making it ideal for an engineer with strong electrical and mechanical fundamentals who enjoys fault-finding, improvement work, and operational ownership.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Perform planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance on production equipment and site facilities.
* Support manufacturing operations by responding effectively to breakdowns and unplanned downtime.
* Apply structured problem-solving techniques (RCA, 5-Why, fault tree analysis) to resolve recurring issues.
* Execute preventative maintenance tasks in line with CMMS schedules and asset strategies.
* Maintain accurate maintenance records, ensuring full traceability of work completed.
* Use maintenance and downtime data to identify trends and recommend reliability improvements.
* Support spare parts control, stock optimisation, and supplier coordination.
* Collaborate with engineering, production, and facilities teams on improvement and upgrade projects.
* Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety procedures, including RAMS and safe systems of work.
* Participate in an on-call rota providing out-of-hours engineering support.
Technical Scope & Systems
Automated pick-and-place and robotic handling systems
* CNC machines and precision manufacturing tools
* Vacuum, laser processing, plating, and semiconductor equipment
* Pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems
* Chemical and gas distribution systems (nitrogen, compressed air)
* DI water systems, LEV, HVAC, and building services infrastructure
Qualifications & Experience
BTEC Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
* Proven experience maintaining complex automated or manufacturing equipment.
* Strong fault-finding skills across electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic disciplines.
* Experience working with CMMS systems and preventative maintenance schedules.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently in a production-critical environment.
* Good IT literacy, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
Desirable Experience
Experience supporting robotic or vision-based automation systems.
* Exposure to SPC or data-driven process improvement tools.
* Knowledge of optical, laser, or wire bonding technologies.
* Experience maintaining HVAC and site services systems.
