Professional Duties
* Exercise general professional duties
* Exercise particular duties as reasonably assigned by the principal or the board
* Planning and preparing courses and lessons (1.1)
* Teaching pupils according to educational needs, setting and marking their work (1.2)
* Assessing, recording and reporting on pupils’ development, progress and attainment (1.3)
* Promoting pupils’ progress and well-being and providing advice and guidance (2.1 – 2.6)
* Providing oral and written assessments and reports (Assessment/Reporting)
* Participating in staff development and performance review schemes (4.1 – 4.3)
* Maintaining discipline and safeguarding pupils’ health and safety (5.1 – 5.2)
* Preparing pupils for public examinations, assessing, recording and reporting exam results (Public Examinations)
* Contributing to selection, appointment and development of other teachers, coordinating or managing their work (Review and Development of Management Activities/Administration)
* Participating in administrative and organisational tasks, including ordering equipment and materials (7.2)
* Attending assemblies and registering attendance of pupils (8.1)
* Providing staff cover for absent teachers under specified conditions (9.1)
* Following the guidelines set out in the Regulations and the Schools Act for duty hours, breaks and staff cover.
Person Specification
* Hold a teaching qualification recognised for grant‑aid schools in Northern Ireland.
* Hold a degree in an English‑related subject.
* Demonstrate a minimum of 6 months paid experience teaching English within the last 6 years.
* Demonstrate a minimum of 6 months paid experience teaching Preparation for Adult Life (PAL) within the last 6 years.
* Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up the post.
Section 1 – Essential Criteria: Knowledge
* Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
* Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice.
* Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
* Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of pupils.
* Knowledge of Information Technology systems such as digital classroom tools/media and the use of tablets/mobile technologies.
* Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching.
Section 1 – Essential Criteria: Skills / Abilities
* Effective teaching and classroom management skills to inspire and challenge pupils to raise achievement.
* Proven ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
* Ability to work collaboratively to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
* Ability to work as an effective member of a team, and to motivate self and others.
Section 1 – Essential Criteria: Values | Identification with School Ethos
* Evidence of how your experience and approach to work reflect the School’s Values/ethos.
Section 3 – Desirable Criteria
* Demonstrate the ability to teach GCSE English.
* Demonstrate training and/or experience of using data (e.g., PTE, PTM and PASS) to meet all pupils’ needs.
* Demonstrable experience of using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning.
* Experience of developing and delivering extracurricular activities.

The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 defines working directly with children or young people or in specified places as ‘regulated activity’. In the event that you are recommended for appointment to a post that involves ‘regulated activity’, the Education Authority will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background.
