The post holder will work closely with the department to provide a comprehensive split role to the clinical service for the Community Diagnostics Centre and ward-based clinical service to the Surgical pharmacy team.

The purpose of this role is to support the Pharmacy Department in delivering a safe, effective, and patient-centred medicines management service to the Clinical Diagnostics Centre. Additionally, the role involves taking medicines histories, completing medicines reconciliation, carrying out therapeutic drug monitoring, making therapeutic interventions within scope of practice, supplying medicines, final checking of medicines, and counselling patients.

The post holder will act as a role model for staff by actively promoting multidisciplinary team working between Pharmacy staff and those in the Imaging and Diagnostics department and Surgical Division. Management responsibilities include line management of junior staff, assisting with the day-to-day running of the services, and monitoring service performance. The role also involves continuous improvement of the service through innovative techniques to develop the technician role and full integration into the multidisciplinary team.

Please note that this role requires travel between working sites: Hereford County Hospital & Community Diagnostics Centre.


Main Duties of the Job

1. Provide medicines management leadership for Community Diagnostic Centres and Imaging, supporting these centres in reducing medicine-related risks.
2. Support Imaging and Diagnostic leads in meeting Divisional and strategic objectives for medicines management.
3. Oversee development and management of SOPs to ensure safe and efficient services.
4. Lead projects and audits related to the safe storage, handling, and supply of medicines, ensuring actions are embedded for continuous quality improvement.
5. Support medicines optimisation in diagnostic services, including procurement of medicines, prescribing of contrast media, radiopharmaceuticals, and supportive medicines.
6. Collaborate with safety officers and managers to create a safe environment that promotes patient safety.

Person Specification


Education & Qualifications

* Level 3 (or equivalent) Pharmacy Technician registration with GPhC
* Completion or willingness to complete medicines optimisation competencies
* Level 4 Clinical Diploma or willingness to complete
* Level 3 Management or leadership qualification/training


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

* Extensive knowledge of medicines management in hospitals
* Understanding of management principles, team management, and staff motivation
* Mentoring and staff development skills
* Knowledge specific to imaging and diagnostics


Experience

* Significant experience as a qualified Pharmacy Technician, demonstrating understanding of a Lead Pharmacy Technician's role
* Experience in staff training and leadership projects
