To work as an autonomous practitioner with a caseload of complex patients within a team structure to deliver a Monday - Friday service as required, ensuring access to tissue viability clinical expertise and oversight, supporting clinical staff to deliver optimal care of patients.
Main duties of the job

• Work as part of the Fundamentals of Care team – ensuring appropriate nutrition, hydration, personal hygiene, sleep, rest and dignity are addressed for the patient
Provide expert knowledge, skills and clinical support relating to direct treatment of complex wounds
Work with community partners to facilitate service provision, development and new ways of working
Design and deliver teaching and education to the full MDT and external stakeholders
Manage own caseload, prioritising daily visits and support clinical staff to feel empowered to care for wounds
A Act as a leader to and support junior staff in their development of skills and knowledge
C Contribute to audits and analysis of data
A Act as a Practice Supervisor and Assessor to Student Nurses

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a Tissue Viability Nurse you will work as a Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Umbrella Service of Fundamentals of Care. The role will involve cross site working, managing a caseload based on complexity of inpatient need. The role will involve clinical working, teaching and contributing to the development of service. Main responsibilities will include:
Daily triage of referrals
Provision of nurse specialist knowledge to clinical areas and wider MDTs
Wound Assessment, Care Plans and Treatment Provision
Teaching and Education
Contribution to Patient Safety Investigations
Participating in research

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC register AND 3 years post-registration experience as Band 5 or above within an acute or community setting AND evidence of having completed or willing to undertake a recognized course or module in relation to wound care / tissue viability. • A full current driving license and access to a car is also essential.
Desirable criteria
2. • Tissue viability module or relevant subject e.g. Burns and Plastics, Vascular, Dermatology, Lymphoedema studied at post graduate level • Sharps debridement course/module • Understanding of bowel and bladder management

3. • Sound knowledge of current trends and issues within nursing. • Experience of working autonomously and managing own workload • Sound knowledge of current trends within Tissue Viability • Knowledge of the role of the Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist • Sound knowledge of the NMC Code • Sound knowledge of public health and health economics ie. population demographics etc.
