Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Ballykelly Contract Type: Full Time / Permanent Working Hours: 40hrs / week - Negotiable Salary: Competitive, Negotiable depending on experience Role Summary As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical components and systems for switchgear products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the mechanical integrity, reliability, and manufacturability of switchgear equipment. Your role will involve applying engineering principles, CAD software proficiency, and industry standards to create innovative and efficient designs. Main Responsibilities: Design and develop mechanical components and systems for switchgear products, including busbars, enclosures and supporting structures. Collaborate with electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and other stakeholders to understand design requirements and constraints. Utilise Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to create 3D models and detailed drawings of mechanical components and assemblies. Perform mechanical analysis, such as stress analysis, thermal analysis, and vibration analysis, to ensure design robustness and reliability. Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for switchgear components, considering factors such as cost, performance, and manufacturability. Conduct design reviews to gather feedback and optimize designs for performance, cost, and manufacturability. Generate engineering documentation, including bills of materials, design specifications, and technical reports. Support prototype builds and testing activities, analysing test results and implementing design improvements as necessary. Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to switchgear design and mechanical engineering. Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source components and ensure design compliance with regulatory standards and customer requirements. The Person: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience in a related field. Proven experience in mechanical design, preferably in the field of switchgear or electrical equipment. Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, such as Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar tools. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform mechanical analysis using simulation software. Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials selection, and design for manufacturability principles. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations applicable to switchgear design, such as ANSI, IEEE, and IEC standards. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Detail-oriented approach with a commitment to producing high-quality designs and documentation. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
