Building and maintaining positive relationships with community-managed libraries is a crucial responsibility. The Library Operations Manager ensures regular communication, advice, and training to support these libraries in delivering excellent services.
The role also involves fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the library services. By utilizing customer feedback and data, the Library Operations Manager works with Area Managers and Volunteer Coordinators to establish and implement development plans for each library.
Collaboration is essential, as the Library Operations Manager works with other library teams, Council staff, and external partners to deliver a wide range of services that meet local priorities. Representing the Library Service on Area Leadership Teams, the manager contributes to the development and delivery of Local Area Plans.
The Library Operations Manager also oversees budgets, ensures health and safety, and maintains the security of staff, stock, and premises. Additionally, the role involves leading change projects, such as new library designs, technology implementations, and volunteer recruitment, and contributes to service planning and strategic decision-making as part of the Libraries Management Team. The manager deputizes for the Head of Service when required.
