Consultant Psychiatrist/Medical Director Female Acute ward This is a full-time position (5 days per week), with flexibility to work one day remotely (Tuesday or Wednesday). A competitive stipend is offered in recognition of the Medical Director responsibilities.
Based in Bristol, this role offers the opportunity to work within a well-established service specialising in the treatment of complex mental health and addiction disorders. Our programmes are grounded in evidence-based practice and focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
Main duties of the job What you'll be doing
You will join the team on the Female Acute Unit. In this role, you will play a key part in patient recovery, supporting the assessment and delivery of tailored treatment plans while ensuring dignity, respect, and high standards of care.
Taking clinical responsibility for patients, including multidisciplinary ward rounds, risk reviews, strategic reviews and the development of a therapeutic milieu.
Fulfilling the role of Responsible Clinician to patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983).
Supervising the process of referral and admission including contributing to preadmission assessments of young people with other team members.
Offering a psychiatric perspective to the multidisciplinary team in relation to the assessment, formulation and treatment of adults.
Contributing to management meetings and clinical governance meetings for the services provided at the hospital, and contributing to the development of service strategy.

CCT (or equivalent) and inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status
A minimum of 3 years experience at Consultant level
Demonstrable experience leading multidisciplinary teams
Experience on a Female Acute Ward
