Automation is a critical growth enabler in regulated businesses. As transaction volumes increase and regulatory expectations tighten, the ability to automate workflows safely and intelligently becomes essential. This role offers the chance to shape how automation and AI are built and scaled across the organisation improving operational efficiency while strengthening control, consistency, and resilience.
We are hiring for an Engineering Manager / Technical Team Lead to lead an AI-enabled automation function within a fast-scaling, regulated business. You’ll work closely with Product, Compliance, Operations, and Engineering teams to identify where automation and AI can remove friction, reduce risk, improve consistency, and strengthen control in critical workflows. The emphasis is firmly on production-ready delivery not experimentation for its own sake.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering leadership and hands-on technical direction. You’ll mentor and grow engineers, shape ways of working, and set the technical approach for how automation is designed, built, governed, and scaled.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the delivery of AI-enabled automation across multiple business domains
* Identify and solve complex operational and product workflows using automation and systems integration
* Own the approach to production-grade AI adoption, including guardrails, governance, and quality control
* Lead and mentor engineers, supporting career development, performance, and team growth
* Drive strong engineering standards around reliability, observability, resilience, and scalability
* Work closely with Product, Compliance, Operations, and domain engineering teams to deliver measurable outcomes
* Influence technical direction and long-term strategy for automation and AI across the wider organisation
* Ensure automation solutions integrate cleanly with APIs, cloud services, and data platforms (not siloed tools)
Tech Stack / Technical Focus
* Node.js / TypeScript
* API integrations and systems orchestration
* MongoDB
* AWS (Lambda, ECS, VPC, serverless patterns)
* Serverless Framework
* Observability, monitoring, alerting, and production support
* You’ll also work alongside engineers using low-code automation platforms, ensuring the right balance of speed, governance, and maintainability.
What We’re Looking For
* Strong background in software engineering before moving into leadership
* Experience leading teams delivering production systems at scale
* Proven ability to mentor and grow engineers while still staying close to technical delivery
* Practical experience introducing AI coding assistance / AI enabled tooling into engineering teams, including safe adoption and guardrails
