Electrical Engineer / Panel Wirer
Monday – Friday (35 hours per week)
The Role:
We are currently recruiting for an Electrical Engineer / Panel Wirer to join a well-established rail engineering business. This is a permanent, supporting the overhaul and refurbishment of On Track Maintenance Machines (OTMs) such as tampers and ballast machines as well as other rolling stock fleet..
This role would suit an electrically biased engineer with experience in heavy plant, rail, or industrial environments who enjoys hands-on work.
Key Responsibilities
Overhaul and rewire electrical systems on low and medium-voltage machinery
Strip out and rebuild control panels, PLCs, and electrical switchgear
Install steel conduit, trunking, and other cable protection systems
Run and terminate multi-core cabling into control cabinets
Read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Carry out testing, fault-finding, and rectification down to component level
Support mechanical strip-down and reassembly when required
Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and workmanship Requirements
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar electrical engineering role
Experience working with 24VDC control systems and PLC wiring
Confident using hand tools and electrical test equipment
Able to work accurately to tight tolerances
IT literate
Experience in heavy engineering, plant, or rail environments preferred
Willingness to work occasional overtime when the workload requires
Ability to pass a rail medical (safety-critical role) Experience with on-track plant machinery is advantageous but not essential.
What’s on Offer
Salary of £35,000 – £45,000 depending on experience
35-hour working week
