Overview

Parent Educator for Long Term Ventilation – Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Closing date: 07 October 2025

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced nurse to join our busy Long Term Ventilation service as a band 6 parent educator, working with children and young people who are dependent on medical technology and have significant medical complexities. The successful applicant will be required to provide education and training to families and carers to empower them to provide safe, competent and effective care at home.


Main duties

The post holder will support the Long Term Ventilation (LTV) MDT in implementing education, training and the development of training packages for parents/carers and care providers for LTV within the Better at Home" suite at MFT.

The post holder must ensure the delivery of education and training to support evidence based care to parents, carers and care packages.

The post holder will educate parents, carers and care packages to a high standard of care while participating in audit and research. In conjunction with the LTV MDT, the post holder will ensure that the education package is fit for purpose in terms of their roles and that individual competencies are reviewed to provide a safe, high quality and efficient service.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* RN (child) RSCN
* Evidence of CPD in relevant speciality
* Qualification relevant to speciality
* Leadership qualification or course
* Evidence of level 6 studies


Knowledge

* Clinically competent within clinical area / speciality
* Awareness of clinical governance process
* Knowledge of roles and responsibilities for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults


Experience

* Substantial post registration experience in relevant area, with a variety of experience within complex care and technology dependency
* Relevant experience within complex care/transitional care to allow appreciation for the needs of children and young people who have complex health needs
* Evidence of professional leadership
* Evidence of multidisciplinary / multiagency working
* Experience of clinical audit and research activities
* Training in the use of simulation learning


Skills

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Evidence of teaching and assessing skills / ability
* Proven workload management of self and of others
* Proven ability to problem solve
* Willingness to be flexible and adaptable
* Effective organisational skills with the ability to respond effectively to multiple priorities
