Contract type: Permanent

Hours per week: Full time (36.50 hours)

Salary: £13.40 - £14.75 per hour (DOE)

Reporting to: Bookkeeping Manager


Job Purpose

Key Responsibilities

* Use accounting technology to manage efficient data entry.
* Reconcile all ledgers e.g., bank, credit card, cash.
* Reconcile control accounts.
* Calculate and submit VAT returns.
* Calculate and submit CIS returns.
* Post journals e.g., PAYE, VAT, pension.
* Maintain electronic filing of reports and records.
* Resolve and reconcile bookkeeping queries.
* Utilise internal recording systems and follow internal procedures to ensure work and data are recorded and completed to an exemplary standard.
* Provide excellent client care both on the phone and in person, delivering reports and updates. This will include answering incoming calls, greeting clients, and welcoming them into the office, offering them refreshments and showing them in and out of the building.
* Work effectively and efficiently as part of a close‑knit bookkeeping team, providing support and cover.
* Participate in activities necessary to support the smooth running of the office environment.
* Carry out relevant CPD required by your professional body (if appropriate).


General Duties

* Attend training and development deemed necessary for the post in agreement with the line manager.
* Willingly undertake any other tasks as reasonably requested by line managers and comply with all employee policies and procedures of Heelan Associates.
* Working from home on a day basis based on experience and the ability to carry out the role independently. Timescale to be discussed.


Person Specification


Relevant Experience

* Experience working in a fast‑paced accountancy practice with a varied caseload of clients.
* Experience utilising Xero, Quickbooks, DEXT.
* Sound understanding and working knowledge of the double entry system.


Skills

* Able to navigate Microsoft packages, specifically Word and Excel.
* Effective at time management with the ability to work to tight deadlines (both internally and externally) and deal with newly emerging priorities day‑to‑day without compromising attention to detail.
* Proactively seek out information when needed from colleagues and clients to enable a seamless service with a curious approach and hunger to expand knowledge.
