Role Responsibility
This is your chance to play a key support role within the Coroners Office for Kent and Medway. You will work under judicial direction to deliver the administrative functions within the Coroners Office while managing all aspects of inquests hearings in the Coroners Court and all enquiries relating to reports of Treasure.
Diligent in your approach with a very high level of accuracy, you will work flexibly and collaboratively with the Coroners, Coroners Investigation Officers and Coroners Court volunteers to ensure effective and efficient service delivery. Your ability to multi-task, prioritise and manage competing demands will be matched by your knowledge and experience using electronic databases and spreadsheets.
Liaising with bereaved families, jurors and other witnesses to ensure they are fully aware of the process will be a vital part of your role, as will ensuring inquest hearings are legally compliant.
Fully committed to confidentiality, you will bring a proven track record in an administrative role with a strong customer service element or alternatively in a responsible role in a court setting. You will have the communication and negotiation skills and initiative to engage with people suffering emotional distress and facilitate circumstances where cultural or religious observances may be significant.
With two A-levels or equivalent, you will have the ability to develop a sound understanding of relevant legislation, Chief Coroners and other official guidance, including Kent County Councils policies.
The position is based at Oakwood House in Maidstone, where we are privileged to be co-located with Courts, but should the need ever arise for us to work from a different location then the post-holder may be required to travel across Kent and Medway to transport court documents and equipment in a time efficient manner to meet the service needs (for example to other courts or offices) The post is full-time (9am to 5pm Monday to Friday) additionally there are two mandatory staff development Saturdays and 2 days residential training each year. The position is subject to an acceptable dress policy due to the nature of the position.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. An assessment centre will be held on 27th October 2025 with interviews the following week with slots on 4th and 6th November 2025. The assessment will be a monitored online assessment with the interviews being held in Maidstone.
