The Role
We are seeking a Senior Health & Safety Manager to lead health, safety and wellbeing across our Western and Southern Home Counties project portfolio. Working across two specialist construction businesses within the Group, you will support the safe delivery of complex projects including super‑prime residential schemes, heritage refurbishments and technically challenging science and higher education facilities.
This role has a strong focus on early‑stage construction activity, including RC frame and groundworks, and requires a visible, proactive presence on site. You will provide both strategic leadership and hands‑on support, ensuring consistent standards, robust risk management and a positive safety culture across multiple live projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the implementation of the Group’s Health & Safety strategy across Western Counties projects, ensuring alignment with company values and project objectives.
* Provide specialist Health & Safety leadership during enabling works, groundworks and RC frame stages, ensuring high‑risk activities are effectively planned and controlled.
* Support project and pre‑construction teams with method statements, sequencing, temporary works considerations and risk assessments.
* Promote a strong, collaborative safety culture across employees and supply chain partners.
* Carry out regular site inspections, audits and safety reviews, driving timely close‑out of actions.
* Oversee investigation of incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions, identifying root causes and implementing lessons learned.
* Engage confidently with clients, consultants, local authorities and regulators, representing the Group professionally.
* Monitor subcontractor competence, compliance and performance, particularly for groundworks and concrete frame packages.
* Line manage and mentor Health & Safety Advisors, supporting capability development and consistency of approach.
* Track and report on health, safety and wellbeing performance metrics for senior leadership review.
About You
To be considered for this role you must be or have:
* A senior‑level Health & Safety professional, chartered or working towards chartership (e.g. IOSH CMIOSH), with a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
* Demonstrable experience working on RC frame and groundworks projects, ideally within complex or high‑value construction environments.
* Strong working knowledge of UK construction legislation, including CDM and best practice standards.
* Comfortable operating both strategically and operationally, with the credibility to influence site teams and senior stakeholders.
* Pragmatic, solutions‑focused and commercially aware, able to balance safety leadership with programme and delivery pressures.
* An engaging communicator with the confidence to challenge constructively and support teams at all levels.
* Organised, adaptable and comfortable travelling across multiple sites within the Western Counties.
* Passionate about raising standards and embedding a genuine culture of safety, quality and wellbeing.
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential for this role.
