Aseptic Unit Manager
As the Aseptic Unit Manager, you will play a key leadership role in delivering a high‑quality and patient‑centred pharmacy aseptic service. You will oversee the coordination and supervision of technical staff and support workers within the aseptic unit, ensuring safe, efficient and cost‑effective operations. This may also include managing the procurement of aseptic products from external suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team dedicated to excellence in aseptic service provision.
* Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation, standards and guidelines, including SOPs, GMP (Orange Guide), QAAPS, COSHH and Trust policies.
* Maintain and enhance quality and safety, ensuring all operational processes are underpinned by robust Standard Operating Procedures and best practices.
* Drive innovation and improvement in pharmaceutical services, contributing to the ongoing development of the department and the wider pharmacy service.
* Operate under the supervision of the Accountable Pharmacist or their designated representative, supporting the delivery of safe, effective and patient‑focused aseptic services across the organisation.
* Serve as the effective procurement, inventory management and cost control officer for externally purchased aseptic products.
* Conduct accuracy checking of oral chemotherapy and associated supportive medications; opportunity to obtain BOPA passport if desired. ACPT will be offered if not already obtained.
* Manage the unlicensed aseptic unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, including enrolling onto the pre and in‑process checking (PIPC) course if not already completed.
* Provide day‑to‑day supervision and support of pharmacy staff working in this technical area.
* Maintain close liaison with nursing staff and pharmacists to plan the timely delivery of chemotherapy to day case, in‑patients and other aseptic products across the Trust.
* Maintain close liaison with the Quality Assurance Department to ensure the safe and efficient running of the service.
* Act as a workplace training supervisor & expert witness for pharmacy staff on training programmes, providing support to trainees and training colleagues to undertake this role.
* Complete accredited training on appropriate programme(s) that will be provided.
Qualifications & Skills
Applicants should have experience in aseptic or pharmaceutical services, strong leadership and team‑development skills, a thorough knowledge of GMP, QAAPS, COSHH and NHS Trust policies. Knowledge of BOPA and ACPT standards is desirable; relevant training will be provided as required.
