Overview
The HIV team is recruiting a 12-month fixed term (maternity leave cover) band 7 nurse practitioner in HIV. Using advanced clinical skills the post holder will deliver advanced clinical care to our HIV patients in the outpatient and HIV dayward service. Based at St Mary’s hospital providing HIV care of the highest quality to over 3,200 patients, this role will suit a skilled and motivated practitioner with contemporary knowledge of HIV and interest in HIV issues. You will possess excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritise and manage your own workload. The role requires a desire to move the service forward using detailed knowledge of factors influencing HIV care provision in today’s NHS.
We require: 1st Level registered nurse (Adult or equivalent); current clinical HIV experience; able to work at an advanced level using PGDs, independent nurse prescribing and clinical guidance documents; a degree in nursing / health promotion / public health or related appropriate clinical discipline.

Responsibilities
* Provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised sexual health care to patients and relatives/carers without supervision, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, in line with local and national targets.
* Provide specialist nursing care and support, deputising for line manager in the management of the clinical specialty, including dealing with complex situations across diverse settings.
* Collaborate with the MDT to provide expert sexual healthcare without direct medical supervision, using clinical guidance documents (CGDs), patient group directions (PGDs) and non-medical independent prescribing as agreed by the department and Trust. Use advanced assessment and specialist skills to independently manage unselected patients attending services.
* Be flexible in approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified, acting as a professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
Qualifications
* Essential — Registered Nurse (adult) level 1; current clinical HIV experience; degree in nursing or related discipline; willingness to undertake a recognised contraceptive qualification; Nurse Independent Prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake
* Desirable — Masters level study in a relevant area; Leadership qualification
Experience / Skills
* Essential — Significant post-registration experience in HIV in a junior specialty role or as a team leader/manager; highly developed specialist and advanced knowledge of HIV; ability to independently undertake advanced clinical skills (complex adherence, new starters, switches and management of HIV patients); proven teaching and assessing skills
* Desirable — Previous experience in related areas such as HIV
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
* Essential — Commitment to local and Trust-wide vision and values; highly developed specialist and advanced knowledge of Sexual Health; ability to independently undertake advanced clinical skills including symptomatic STI assessment, diagnosis and management; good IT skills including Office suite (PowerPoint)
* Desirable — Advanced contraceptive skills (IUD/Implants)
