About the Role
We currently have an exciting opportunity to our Highways and Transportation Projects Team and help shape the future of travel. From cycle lanes and Electric Vehicle charging points to town centre upgrades and Greater Manchester’s Destination Bee Network, you’ll work on projects that connect communities, reduce emissions, and transform how people move. No two days are the same and every day makes a difference.
We are seeking a proactive, organised, and motivated Highways & Transportation Project Officer to support the delivery of a diverse range of transport and infrastructure projects across Trafford.
As part of our Highways, Transport and Environment team, you will contribute to all stages of project delivery from planning and progress monitoring to engaging with contractors, funding partners, and local stakeholders.
You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget, whether funded by the Council, the Department for Transport, Active Travel England, or Transport for Greater Manchester.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your project management skills within a supportive, collaborative environment, while making a meaningful impact on Trafford’s transport network.
About you
You will hold a Level 3 qualification (A-level, BTEC) or have equivalent practical experience in engineering, transport, construction, or project management. While a project management qualification such as PRINCE2 or APM, experience within a Local Authority, or knowledge of highways legislation would be an advantage, what matters most is your enthusiasm, adaptability, and commitment to continuous learning.
Confident and clear in your communication, you can engage with stakeholders from a range of backgrounds and build trust through professionalism and respect. You will take ownership of your work, finding solutions to challenges and adapting your approach to achieve the best outcomes.
Above all, you will be a collaborative team player who builds positive working relationships with colleagues across the Highways, Transportation and Environment Service and beyond. You will be committed to working safely, maintaining high standards, and contributing to projects that make a real difference for the people of Trafford.
Your style and approach will reflect our EPIC values: a commitment to continual learning and improvement for effective outcomes; valuing and respecting others' contributions; taking ownership of your actions and learning from mistakes when they occur; and enjoying personal responsibility to resolve issues and adapt your approach to make a difference.
