TeacherActive are proud to be working with a supportive 2-form entry Primary School in South Birmingham, who are seeking an Intervention Teacher to join their dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to make a real difference in the lives of pupils who need additional academic and emotional support.
About the Role:
As the Intervention Teacher, you will work with small groups of 5–10 pupils to deliver targeted teaching sessions designed to close learning gaps and build confidence across the curriculum. You’ll be expected to plan and prepare your own lessons, with PPA time allocated each week.
You will also have the full support of a Learning Mentor/Teaching Assistant in every session to help manage behaviour, engage pupils, and create a positive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Have experience or a genuine passion for working with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
Be patient, nurturing, and able to create a safe, structured learning environment
Have excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
Be able to plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons to meet individual needs
Hold a DBS Certificate on the Update Service or be willing to complete one through TeacherActive
Provide two professional references from recent employers
About SEMH:
Working with children with SEMH needs requires empathy, creativity, and consistency. These pupils may struggle with anxiety, trauma, or emotional regulation, so your role will focus on helping them develop self-esteem, resilience, and social skills alongside academic progress. You’ll be supported by the school’s pastoral team, SENCO, and TeacherActive consultants throughout the assignment.
