The Principal Supplier Development Engineer
Provides senior technical leadership across opportunities, proposals, and active projects. The role ensures high technical quality, robust supplier development strategies, and strong program execution while driving continuous improvement across the supply chain.
This position leads technical reviews, mentors engineering talent, strengthens service capabilities, and collaborates with cross-functional teams including sales, program management, and technical leadership to deliver high-value solutions to customers.
The Principal Engineer also serves as a technical thought leader, contributing to industry communities and developing innovative approaches that enhance organizational capability and supplier performance.
Work Experience
Technical Leadership & Program Execution
* Lead the technical aspects of opportunities, proposals, and customer projects.
* Conduct and oversee technical and deliverable reviews to ensure quality and compliance with standards.
* Ensure the technical health of programs or span of influence across multiple programs.
* Guide project teams in solving complex technical challenges and provide subject matter expertise.
* Monitor the effectiveness of technical reviews when assigned as Technical Reviewer (TR).
* Support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for technical issues.
* Develop and maintain standard work documentation and best practices.
Capability Development
* Drive development of service capabilities through technical collateral, training programs, case studies, Technology Demonstrator (TED) initiatives, pilot projects.
* Create and maintain technical training content, standard work, and knowledge materials.
* Coordinate with TEG, LEAD, Program Managers, and Technical Leaders on the technical training calendar.
* Conduct technical competency assessments for employees.
* Develop and approve technical reviewers within the organization.
* Monitor and improve the technical capability health of the program.
* Support knowledge management initiatives to capture and share technical expertise.
Team Development & Mentorship
* Guide and mentor employees on their technical career paths.
* Provide coaching and mentoring to develop future technical reviewers and technical leaders.
* Support recruitment by conducting technical interviews and helping define required technical competencies for programs and proposals.
* Improve the technical competency of the team and self through continuous learning and capability development.
Customer & Business Impact
* Lead technical contributions to customer proposals and campaign initiatives in partnership with Sales and Program Management.
* Demonstrate the capabilities of organizational services, including development of case studies and success stories.
* Support technical discussions with customers and resolve complex technical issues.
* Help the organization acquire new projects through technical expertise, pilot programs, and TED initiatives.

Process & Continuous Improvement
* Lead and contribute to Continuous Improvement initiatives.

* Track service health metrics to monitor capability and delivery performance.
* Improve the effectiveness and maturity of technical review processes.
* Support implementation of best practices and standardized engineering processes.
