Details of this position:
This position is for a full-time Workshop Instructor to work within prison education.
The role will involve supervising offenders in the workshop, ensuring safe practices while supporting them to gain practical and employability skills that can be used on release.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead & Support: Deliver hands-on instruction across multiple workshop environments, guiding residents through structured work tasks.
* Engage & Motivate: Foster participation and maintain focus, ensuring a professional, purposeful environment.
* Adapt & Problem-Solve: Transition seamlessly between different workshop areas, providing consistency and high-quality learning experiences.
* Ensure Safety: Conduct risk assessments, manage tool control, and uphold all health and safety standards.
* Track & Report: Record attendance, monitor progress, and contribute to rehabilitation and performance reporting.
Work schedule:
38.5 hours per week across 5 days:
* Four days: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
* One half-day: either 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM or 1:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Salary scale: From £30,000 per year
Ideal Candidate Profile:
* Experience in a relevant trade or vocational area (manufacturing, horticulture, cleaning, waste management, etc.).
* Skilled in group management, able to create a positive and structured workshop environment.
* Highly adaptable, capable of quickly learning new workshop processes.
* Competent with basic administrative duties, including tracking attendance and outputs.
* Strong commitment to safety, structure, and supporting resident development.
Suitable candidates will need to be enthusiastic, resilient, and have a humanistic approach. This role will not be for everyone, but anyone with an interest is encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be required to obtain the appropriate prison clearance before starting the role and maintain this throughout employment.
