Laboratory Equipment Team Leader
* Role: Full-time, Permanent Contract
The Role
We’re seeking an experienced and technically minded QC Team Leader to manage our Quality Support & Improvement (QSI) team and oversee the maintenance, verification and calibration of our laboratory equipment in accordance with regulatory / GMP requirements and to minimise downtime of laboratory operations. Developing a comprehensive understanding of our laboratory equipment and operations (including HPLC, UV and GC testing across raw materials, stability and batch release), you’ll prepare an annual schedule of maintenance for our equipment, liaising with departments across the business to support the programming of work (e.g. Engineering, Calibration, Validation, QA). Managing a team of QC Analysts, you’ll assign tasks across your team, in-line with the schedule, to ensure the effective completion for validation, qualification and maintenance activities are completed for lab equipment, with associated COSHH assessments performed and documented. Where reactive issues arise, you’ll work closely with your team to identify the root cause and liaising with equipment suppliers to rectify any problems in a timely manner to support the wider QC team. Alongside this, you will oversee the receipt, checking and processing of all chemicals and consumables that come into the lab and manage the scheduling of water and environmental sampling, ensuring effective reporting of results and that all chemicals and reagents are correctly labelled and stored.
To support the smooth running of the business and ensure Quality levels are maintained, you’ll also provide support in internal audits and inspections, conducting trend and root cause analysis to recommend corrective and preventative actions, always driving for continuous improvement.
The Person
* Experience working in a busy QC laboratory, with a good understanding of multiple laboratory equipment (e.g. HPLC, UV, GC), processes and their associated systems
* Good knowledge of UK, EU, FDA Quality Assurance standards and GMP requirements
* Knowledge of laboratory equipment troubleshooting, maintenance and calibration processes
* Excellent communication skills – happy relating to people of all levels, navigating cultural differences and using subtle negotiating and influencing skills to get the best outcomes
* Strong organisation skills, able to manage multiple tasks to deadline and maintain a good eye for detail even in a fast-paced and changeable work environment
* Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and a good understanding of quality management systems (QMS) with the ability to analyse data and reports in order to make decisions
* HNC / HND / Degree-level qualification in a Science related subject, however significant relevant experience would also be considered
* People management skills with experience of managing, motivating and developing a team (desirable)
