Senior Probate Lawyer - Derby

A leading, forward-thinking legal services provider is seeking an experienced Senior Probate Lawyer to take the lead on contentious probate work and help expand a well-regarded Private Client offering. The Opportunity
This is a senior position suited to a probate litigation specialist who enjoys autonomy, business development, and the chance to shape and grow a department.
You will be responsible for managing a caseload involving contentious trusts and probate matters, as well as contributing to the wider growth of the Wills, Trusts & Probate team.
Key Responsibilities
Handle a range of probate and trust litigation matters, including Court of Protection applications, contested wills, Inheritance Act claims, and related disputes.
Support ongoing development of the private client offering across the firm's Midlands base.
Supervise and support junior colleagues and contribute to departmental strategy.
Maintain compliance with quality and risk management standards.
Play a proactive role in business development and client relationship management.
Manage financial performance including billing and cashflow.
Attend client meetings, including home visits if required, and represent clients in County, High, or Protection Courts when necessary.About You
We are looking for someone who brings:
3+ years' PQE in contentious probate or litigation (more senior applicants welcomed)
A proven track record of handling contentious trust and probate matters
Strong commercial acumen and ability to develop lasting client relationships
Clear, confident communication skills (both written and verbal)
Familiarity with relevant legislation including TOLATA and Inheritance Act 1975
A team player with a collaborative attitude and mentoring mindset
Tech-savvy, organised, and able to manage a varied and sometimes urgent caseloadDesirable (but not essential):
ACTAPS membership (or working toward)
Experience with Court of Protection matters
