My Client is recruiting for a Regional Discipline Lead - Mechanical in the Water Sector. Our Client aims to strengthen their Engineering Leadership team with this role. As an essential member of the Engineering Leadership Team, you will report directly to the Engineering Director and serve as the lead technical authority for mechanical engineering aspects of projects.
As Mechanical Regional Discipline Lead, your responsibilities include providing engineering technical direction to mechanical discipline engineers, ensuring an effective team that integrates all mechanical design elements across all zones and phases of the scheme, and guaranteeing right-first-time functionality through design, construction, commissioning, and takeover. You will review mechanical deliverables produced by other engineers and the supply chain to ensure adherence to processes and procedures. Coaching and mentoring junior team members is also a key part of your role.
You will collaborate with key stakeholders and support multidisciplinary project teams to deliver solutions that offer the best value—being fit for purpose, completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Additionally, you will work with other stakeholders to drive continuous improvements in engineering, design, and innovation.
Key responsibilities:
1. Lead and develop the mechanical design team to create industry-leading engineering solutions.
2. Be a vital member of the Engineering Leadership Team (ELT), reporting directly to the Engineering Director.
3. Collaborate with project management, design, construction teams, and stakeholders to deliver optimal solutions.
4. Develop new ways of working to reduce carbon footprint, increase biodiversity, and address climate change, embracing innovations and digital technologies.
5. Expand professional networks with partners.
6. Assist in appointing and managing specialist contractors to meet cost, time, quality, and safety requirements.
7. Create and oversee the project design management plan, ensuring all team members understand their responsibilities.
8. Manage the production and coordination of mechanical design programmes and deliverables.
9. Ensure mechanical design aligns with client requirements, legislation, regulations, and standards.
10. Lead buildability, risk, opportunity, and value engineering reviews.
11. Maintain BIM Execution Plan and CAD protocols.
12. Monitor and report on design progress regularly, taking corrective actions as needed.
13. Ensure technical deliverables are produced on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
14. Oversee technical deliverables, manage technical costs, and control technical changes.
Candidate Experience and Qualifications:
* Degree in engineering or equivalent knowledge through experience.
* Chartered or working towards chartered status is preferred.
* Practical mechanical engineering experience in water/wastewater industry.
* Experience mentoring junior engineers.
* Design experience in multi-disciplinary water industry projects.
* Knowledge of CDM responsibilities.
* Experience with Wastewater and Sludge Treatment Centres.
* Ability to foster team collaboration and manage stakeholder relationships.
* Leadership skills to manage high-performance teams.
* Organizational skills to manage workloads proactively.
* Ability to lead and develop teams, providing guidance and decision-making support.
* Experience in staff management, performance assessment, mentoring, and development.
* Excellent communication, influencing, and negotiation skills.
