❗Head of Procurement - Highways❗ Location: Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire (ideally 4 days a week in office) A leading infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced and driven Head of Procurement to lead its procurement function. With a strong footprint in highways maintenance and civil engineering, this is a unique opportunity to take full ownership of the procurement strategy, team development, and supply chain optimisation across a £135m turnover business. Key Responsibilities Take full control of the procurement function, providing leadership, structure, and direction to the team Review and improve existing procurement procedures and implement best practices aligned with company goals Deliver measurable cost savings, particularly across a significant direct labour spend (~£21m) Oversee supplier performance and ensure effective management of an £80m supply chain Engage in senior leadership discussions, contributing to broader commercial strategy Lead a monthly procurement forum to maintain alignment across the business Provide coaching and mentoring to junior procurement staff, while assessing and improving current team performance Ensure compliance with procurement regulations and alignment with NEC3 and JCT contractual frameworks What We’re Looking For Proven procurement leadership experience within the infrastructure, highways, or construction sectors Strong understanding of NEC3 and JCT contracts Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Comfortable working in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment – a “doer” mindset is critical Ability to build and lead a high-performing procurement team Commercially astute, with a practical approach to driving value through procurement Degree qualified and/or MCIPS preferred (but not essential) Previous contractor-side experience is essential – consultancy backgrounds will not be prioritised If you are interested and require further details, please send your CV over to rachel.flexer@barclaymeade.com.
