Are you ready for a role where you can make a real difference? Then we might have just the opportunity for you.
About the Shared Lives Carer role
Our Shared Lives and Short Breaks service is looking for caring individuals across Ayrshire to become a Shared Lives and Short Breaks Carer. Share Lives is an essential service which provides short breaks, transitional and long‑term arrangements to individuals aged 16 and over who require care and support because of their disability, condition or support need. Like a foster carer, we help people who need extra support to live in their own community and live their life to the full, without having to live alone.
As a Shared Lives Carer you will support the individual in your own home, helping them in their daily life, and often becoming part of their long‑term support network. You will be fully supported throughout the whole process through a careful matching process, regular visits from the Shared Lives team and access to a carers’ forum to meet and share ideas with other carers.
Who can become a Shared Lives Carer?
If you have a spare room, the time and a passion for making a difference, then Shared Lives is for you. Our carers come from all walks of life – some have worked as professional care workers, some are retired individuals who enjoy a lively home, and others are parents who can care while letting their children stay at home. The common qualities we look for are patience, empathy, a sense of humour and the ability to help individuals meet the challenges of everyday life.
