Description
In line with our ongoing expansion, we are seeking to employ a Managing Consultant – Commercial Manager, to enhance our consulting team. This role offers a diverse, challenging, and interesting experience within the well-established Lumensol Commercial Services Team. The nature and requirements of the role are multifaceted, driven by a combination of the current projects we are engaged to complete and the clients we are working with.
The primary responsibility of this role is to offer commercial management expertise and support to our clients and team. This could involve assuming a leading commercial role within a client organisation to enhance or implement commercial controls, to managing monthly application review processes, ensuring our clients comply with contractual commercial mechanisms, to leading on the commercial requirements with our Procurement Team, to leading full-scale operational and commercial transformation projects.
As the Commercial Manager, you will report to the Head of Commercial and work closely with other members of the commercial team, including Assistant QS’s, Quantity Surveyors, Commercial Managers, and the Director of Commercial Services. You will also collaborate with operational teams on larger or more complex projects.
Key Responsibilities / Outcomes
* Delivering all fundamental aspects of being an employee of Lumensol, to include personal training and development, compliance with policies and procedures, upholding our values and contributing to our fantastic team culture
* Oversee the process to review and assess works submitted through the application for payment process, ensuring the commercial mechanisms are appropriately applied and that the required notices are issued in accordance with the contract conditions
* Mentoring, support and training of the Commercial Team roles
* Provide commercial support and advice to clients, clearly explaining and advising on options available
* Oversee preparation/submission of applications for payment in-line with the contract conditions
* Manage the preparation of and presenting of monthly reports on cost/progress/ performance
* Manage the resolution of disputes/queries/claims between clients, contractors, and suppliers
* Control project costs/budgets, ensure they are completed within the agreed time and quality standards
* Help manage the review, design, implementation and adherence to robust commercial processes, templates, timetables, and commercial control mechanisms to ensure commercial assurances
* Negotiate and agree on contracts, prices, and variations with clients/ contractors / subcontractors
* Oversee the preparation and review of tender documents, bills of quantities, and commercial mechanisms for various work streams and projects
* Identify key risks and opportunities provide strategic guidance on how to develop or mitigate
* Adequately resourcing projects and commissions, including recruitment where necessary
* Business Development activities to support Lumensol’s strategic growth and expansion.
Skills & experience
Essential Skills
* Relevant Qualifications – Degree/HNC in Commercial Management / Quantity Surveying
* 3+ years of experience as a Commercial Manager or similar role in the housing sector
* Background in social housing maintenance contracts is essential
* Strong working knowledge and experience Schedule of Rates (SoR)
* Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with high level of accuracy and keen eye for detail
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams etc.
* Ability to successfully manage a team and provide development opportunities
* Ability to work effectively, utilising own initiative without high level of supervision
* Experience of versatility in rapidly changing environment, priorities and needs of our clients
* Energy, enthusiasm, and a drive to work hard and learn as part of an experienced team
* Positive, polite, organised, and professional in everything that they do
* Proven ability to work methodically, follow procedures and manage information
* Proven ability to communicate effectively - in writing, face to face and by phone
* Experience in report writing and presentation of information with successful outcomes to senior teams.
Desirable Skills
* Experience with Reactive/ Planned/Cyclical Maintenance contracts/ cost models
* Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or Power BI, specifically Power Query, M Query and Dax
* Experience with negotiation and influencing at senior levels
* Knowledge of TAC/ TPC, NEC & JCT Contracts.
