Job overview

The OD Practitioner (Systems and Leadership Development) post holder will take the lead for maintaining, evaluating and improving OD systems which support people and performance processes including appraisal, coaching, talent management, succession planning and our 360-degree feedback tool. They will also take responsibility for designing, delivering (and coordinating delivery of) knowledge and skills development in relation to these areas of work, supporting the wider Leadership team, when required, with the delivery of senior leadership development programmes of work.

Through their role, they will provide comprehensive OD Business partnering support to teams undergoing complex change or challenges as well as supporting wider OD team strategies including the Trust’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy and our Team Engagement and Development (TED) tool.

The post holder will align interventions to our organisational priorities, demonstrating a measurable impact on performance, behaviour change, workforce performance metrics, quality of colleague experience or culture. They will need to possess excellent communication skills; strong facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and project management skills are essential too, along with a deep understanding of OD principles. Working collaboratively across the organisation, the post holder will contribute to fostering a culture focused on people and performance conversations which enable exceptional colleague experience.

Main duties of the job

1. Lead the design, delivery, implementation and improvement of trust-wide OD systems programmes of work such as appraisal (medical and non-medical), talent management, succession planning, coaching, mentoring and our 360-degree feedback tool.
2. Support the design, delivery and evaluation of both accredited and non-accredited leadership and development programmes for senior leaders and managers, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities.
3. Provide OD business partnering support to teams including the facilitation and delivery of bespoke team sessions which improve team effectiveness, team culture, leadership capability, support to navigate complex change or staff engagement.

The Organisational Development (OD) Practitioner role is a new position for our team. It will require creative thinking, lots of involvement and engagement with colleagues from all corners of our organisation, focusing on improving their leadership and management opportunities and we need you to show us how you have a solid foundation in organisational development and design which has been able to bring about lasting, measurable improvements.

Key relationships: Organisational Development team (including Leadership & Management, Equality and Diversity, Blended Learning, Library Services, Engagement, Retention and Recognition), Training Performance & Compliance, Continuous Improvement, Executive Team, Senior Managers (including Heads of Service & General Managers), Matrons and Clinical Managers, Medical leaders, First and Second Line Leaders, Inclusion Ambassador forums and Champions, Partnership Team, Workforce team (Recruitment, Temporary Staffing, Workforce Business Partners, Workforce Advice, Health & Wellbeing team), External bodies or relevant networks

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

4. Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area or demonstrable experience working in the professional field.
5. Evidence of structured professional and career development.
6. Management qualification at diploma level or equivalent experience.
7. Coaching qualification or substantial experience of coaching range of senior staff for multidisciplinary roles.

Desirable criteria

8. Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) or Chartered Organisational Psychologist
9. Master’s degree qualification or equivalent experience (in relevant subject area such as MSc Organisational Psychology, Organisational Development or Leadership/Management).
10. Coaching Supervision qualification
11. Qualified in project management techniques.
12. Teaching qualification at Certificate of Education level or equivalent.
13. Certificate in workplace mediation
14. Psychometric test qualifications.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

15. Extensive experience, knowledge and proven ability in delivering longer term transformational OD within a large diverse organisation.
16. Proven experience of supporting OD strategy and bringing about strategic level system change
17. Knowledge of a range of organisational development interventions, and facilitation techniques including team engagement, team development, morale, leadership development theory and practice.
18. Experience of evaluation and proof of impact of OD interventions and programmes of work.
19. Significant experience of working as an internal or external consultant and providing a consultancy or OD Business Partnering service including experience of scoping, design, analytical and diagnostic skills to implement OD interventions to meet a range of different stakeholder needs.
20. Experience of working in a management position in a large complex organisation.
21. Experience of delivering multiple projects and balancing conflicting demands through planning, prioritisation and coordination.

22. Experience of working in the public sector or NHS.
23. Experience of delivering equality, diversity and inclusion interventions.
24. Experience of managing and implementing online OD solutions such as appraisal.
25. Experience of providing OD support to teams undergoing complex change and reorganisation.
26. Experience of producing communications resources and utilising a range of communication channels including social media.
