Theatre Practitioner (Staff Nurse/ODP)
Position is based at University Hospital Ayr, NHS Ayrshire & Arran. The post is offered on a permanent/fixed‑term basis for 12 months.
Hours
36 hours per week over 4 days. Part‑time may also be considered depending on skills and experience. From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full‑time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours pro‑rata for part‑time staff without loss of earnings.
Responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment of care needs and evaluation of programmes of care to ensure delivery of high‑quality care to patients within the perioperative environment. The post holder will manage all aspects of patient care in a circulating and scrub role as part of the theatre team.
Work will involve three theatres and two diagnostic rooms at Day Surgery UHA, carrying out a range of surgeries including ophthalmology, urology, plastics and vascular. The role facilitates high‑volume planned surgery as well as emergency operating, including occasional weekend work to meet waiting‑list demands.
Qualifications and Experience
Must be registered with the NMC or HCPC. Preference given to candidates with previous theatre experience across multiple specialties.

Applicants must have the appropriate right to work in the UK. NHS Ayrshire & Arran may offer visa sponsorship for certain roles provided they meet salary threshold and other criteria. Sponsorship is assessed on a case‑by‑case basis after interview and pre‑employment checks.
