We are seeking an Ecologist to support the delivery of ecological surveys, sustainable landscape design, and green infrastructure work across a range of projects. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with relevant experience to be involved in impactful environmental initiatives. The position is currently offered as a fixed-term contract, with the potential for it to develop into a longer-term role.
Role Overview
The Ecologist will play a vital role in delivering projects by leading ecological surveys, monitoring and reporting, and contributing to the design and implementation of sustainable landscape and green infrastructure solutions. This role is ideal for someone who is self-motivated, comfortable working independently in outdoor environments, and enjoys collaborating within a committed multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead ecological assessments and planning for projects, including habitat and species surveys in woodland, riparian, and peatland environments.
* Prepare clear and concise ecological field reports and contribute to project documentation.
* Liaise with contractors and local community members during project implementation.
* Support the design and integration of sustainable landscape solutions such as blue-green infrastructure, rain gardens, tree planting, and permeable paving.
* Conduct initial mapping and analysis; develop planting plans and ecological specifications.
* Contribute to the incorporation of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) in urban design proposals.
* Support broader conservation and biodiversity initiatives.
Essential Requirements
* Degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
* Minimum of 2 to 5 years' relevant experience.
* Proficiency in ecological survey techniques, including strong plant identification and habitat classification (e.g., Fossitt or EU Habitats).
* Strong organisational, analytical, and reporting skills.
* Competence in using GIS for mapping and data presentation.
* Ability to work independently in varied outdoor settings.
* Willingness to travel frequently.
* Full clean driving licence.
* Interest in working with a social enterprise and supporting community-based environmental projects.
