Job overview

An exciting substantive opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 6 or established Band 7 physiotherapist to join the ACCU Physiotherapy team. The team offers a service across the 56 bedded ACCU with a variety of major trauma, surgery, medicine, neurotrauma, and complex polytrauma cases. The post offers rotational experience across the Level 3 and Level 2 ACCUs and Elective Surgical HDU. The post offers opportunities to develop our Rehabilitation after Critical Illness (RaCl) service, and the RLH ICU Follow-up clinic.

The post holder will support the Clinical Lead with day to day running of the team, oversight of their ACCU pod and governance for their area. The post holder will be an integral part of the ACCU MDT, supporting weekly complex patient MDM, tracheostomy ward rounds, and participate in ICU ward rounds. The team has a strong ethos for clinical and team education and development, innovation, and research opportunities.

The successful applicant will have a broad range of acute and critical care experience, be a motivated team player, and deliver high quality care within the framework of a multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

To assist in coordinating and developing the physiotherapy service in the Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU) at the Royal London Hospital. The post holder will play a major and specialist role in the advanced assessment, treatment and clinical management of patients across the ACCUs involving major trauma/neurosciences, specialist medicine and surgery specialities, determining the clinical diagnosis, functional deficits and delivering current physiotherapy treatments. The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical and professional leadership to a team of qualified staff in the ACCU physiotherapy team.

·ICU Follow-up service (with opportunity for musculoskeletal outpatient service exposure)

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. •Diploma or Degree in physiotherapy
2. •HCPC registration
3. •Evidence of post graduate training relevant to clinical specialty

Desirable criteria

4. •Member of CSP
5. •Member of relevant professional special interest group
6. •Formal post graduate qualification relevant to clinical specialty
7. •Clinical educators training
8. •Leadership training

Experience

Essential criteria

9. •Extensive post graduate clinical experience in critical care
10. •Experience in the assessment and treatment of patients with complex neuro and/or trauma presentations
11. •Experience in the management of acute and chronic respiratory conditions
12. •Experience of managing a team and supervising junior members of staff
13. •Experience of providing and participating in an inservice training programme
14. •Clinical experience in an acute hospital setting

Desirable criteria

15. •Evidence in the adoption of innovative physiotherapy practices in critical care
16. •Involvement/participation in research pertaining to the critical care population
17. •Clinical experience in the NHS/Pathways
18. •Experience of ICU follow up services
19. •Experience in musculoskeletal specialism

Knowledge

Essential criteria

20. •Knowledge of a range of clinical conditions and presentations relating to critical illness
21. •Knowledge of the management of tracheostomies including weaning and decannulation
22. •Knowledge of mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation and weaning positive pressure

Desirable criteria

23. •Participation in service improvement projects
24. •Change management strategies
25. •Experience in assessment and management of service risk
