Job Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Cardiothoracic Services team based at Freeman Hospital. The clinical board of Cardiothoracic Services provides specialist treatment for all types of cardiac and respiratory-related conditions in adults and children, including interventional and medical cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac critical care, transplant and ventricular assist devices. This post, leading and developing the clinical pharmacy service within adult services, offers a fantastic opportunity to shape service delivery across the Trust.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
* Lead and strategically develop the clinical pharmacy service for Adult Cardiothoracic Services.
* Provide clinical ward provision to adult cardiac and respiratory wards.
* Collaborate with the board on safe and effective medicine use, including audit, cost improvement plans, governance and guideline production.
* Train, support and supervise junior staff within pharmacy and the directorate.
* Manage the small pharmacy team, ensuring appropriate service provision and staff development.
* Apply and implement Cost Improvement Programmemes (CIPs) and provide clinical audit and research within the area.
* Support clinical boards, respond to medication-related queries and oversee access to medicines.
* Facilitate timely medication reconciliation, optimisation and prescribing support in line with national priorities.
* Participate in the 7‑day clinical service, including weekend and bank holiday rota, and support late‑night and weekend dispensary services.
* Provide education and training to pharmacy and non‑pharmacy staff, and where applicable, mentor foundation pharmacists and trainees.

Salary: £55,690 to £62,682 per year (pro‑rata)

Job Specifications
Essential Qualifications
* M Pharm (or equivalent) degree and pre‑registration experience
* Registered Pharmacist (GPhC)
* Clinical Diploma
* Independent Prescriber
Desirable Qualifications
* Clinical Master’s degree
Knowledge & Experience
* Extensive post‑registration experience in hospital pharmacy, some at a senior level
* Demonstrated clinical audit experience and understanding of its role in pharmacy and medicine
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
* Knowledge of clinical pharmacy across all aspects of drug use
* Experience leading on cost improvement programmes and providing training to staff
Skills & Abilities
* Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
* One‑to‑one communication and influencing/negotiating skills
* Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office
* Capability to supervise and support foundation pharmacists and trainees
* Knowledge of local and national prescribing regulations and guidelines
