Overview
Were seeking a Defendant Paralegal to join AXA Retails in-house Legal Services Unit (LSU). Our team is responsible for managing litigated claims on behalf of AXA and its policyholders. You will manage a litigated portfolio of motor claims that have been brought against AXA or its policyholders.
Responsibilities
* Handling a portfolio of litigated files of claims brought against our motor policyholders.
* Defending all proceedings to a high quality.
* Negotiating claims while keeping indemnity spend and lifecycles to a minimum.
* Coordinating, preparing statements and briefing counsel.
* Providing commercially focused legal advice.
* Making an appropriate contribution to the department, e.g., knowledge sharing and training.
* Complying with the required standards for internal procedures.
Work arrangements
Youll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) in the future. This involves attending the office, visiting clients or attending industry events. Flexible working arrangements may be considered.
Qualifications
* Law degree coupled with litigation experience.
* Good working knowledge of the Road Traffic Act, Civil Procedure Rules, Hire/Credit Hire and strong knowledge of court procedures.
* Ability to operate with a high level of self-sufficiency, combined with an awareness of the boundaries of own competence and authority.
* Team oriented with experience of mentoring, coaching and supervising less experienced team members.
* Confident communicator with an ability to develop relationships and influence at all levels.
* Strong organisational skills to ensure a pragmatic and methodical approach to handling a variety of claims simultaneously, through an IT case management system.
* Courage to challenge the norm and share alternative solutions, interrogative interviewing techniques and witness statement taking.
* Ability to handle a complex and constantly changing workload and to work under pressure while maintaining the required quality.
