We are looking for a hard working and dynamic person to join our friendly, supportive Respiratory Physiology team. You will assist the Physiologists in implementing the diagnostic pathway of patients referred for assessment of their lung function within the Trust new Preston Community Diagnostic Hub.
Ideally you will have at least 12 months of experience working within an acute healthcare setting and be able to work under minimal supervision. We are looking for someone with excellent written and verbal communication and time management skills and can prioritise their workload effectively.
We welcome applications from candidates who do not currently have the required experience for this role but would be willing to undertake an apprenticeship or further training in order to learn the relevant skills and knowledge.
Main duties of the job
You will plan, undertake and perform simple initial interpretation on a range of diagnostic assessments.
Such investigations would include:
1. Spirometry
2. Reversibility of airways obstruction with bronchodilators
3. Exhaled nitric oxide
4. IOS
5. Full pulmonary function testing
6. 6 minute walk test
You will provide support for the sleep and CPAP team by providing ongoing assistance to long term patients in the use and care of their therapy under the supervision of the sleep physiologists.
You will also provide support and advice for other staff and student’s, to support them in reaching their full potential.
You will also support the productive operation of the lung function laboratory by undertaking a number of activities to contribute to the maintenance of a clean safe environment and to maintain standards of care and practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Contribute to the assessment and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines.
Contribute to the management of risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
To help maintain all equipment used, to ensure accuracy and quality control measures are followed.
To plan, undertake and perform simple initial interpretation on a range of diagnostic assessments in accordance with ARTP, ERS, ATS guidelines.
Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care.
Maintain accurate and complete records of all care activities, in a timely manner, adhering to local and professional standards for documentation.
Maintain and develop own professional competence and skills within scope of role.
Contribute to the assessment and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines.

Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
7. •GCSE in English, Maths and Science, Grade A-C or equivalence
8. •A levels or equivalence
9. •Up-to-date Continual professional development folder
Desirable criteria
10. •ARTP Accredited Spirometry registrant.
11. •ARTP/BTS Full certificate in Spirometry
12. •Foundation degree in healthcare science or NVQ level 3/4 in health care or equivalence.
