Job Overview
Band 5 Staff Nurse – Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU) at St Bartholomew’s Hospital Heart Centre. This role rotates through three critical care units, providing care for post‑operative cardiothoracic and thoracic patients, heart event patients, ECMO patients, vascular, and cancer patients. The unit is rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.
Responsibilities
* Assess, plan, provide, and evaluate evidence‑based care for critically ill patients (Levels 2 & 3).
* Support and develop colleagues through mentoring and skills assessment.
* Promote practice development within critical care.
* Fulfil local and trust audit or project requirements.
* Maintain a safe working environment, complying with Health and Safety regulations.
* Provide skilled support to the multidisciplinary team.
* Adhere to mandatory training and professional development programmes (ILS, ALS, CALS, etc.).
Person Specification
Essential
* Registered Nurse (RN1) with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration.
* Degree or equivalent in nursing.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Experience in an acute setting after qualification.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to work calmly and efficiently in high‑stress situations.
* Proficiency in clinical information systems and advanced monitoring equipment.
* Knowledge of the NMC Code, revalidation, and NHS structure.
Desirable
* Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) experience.
* Advanced cardiac monitoring experience.
* Proficiency in IT and research‑based nursing practice.
* Knowledge of arterial blood gas analysis and advanced monitoring.
