Electrical Site Manager (Prison / Secure Estate) — Up to £400/day + staying away
There’s a certain buzz that comes with secure, high-stakes projects: bigger programmes, tighter controls, and delivery that has to be right first time. This role sits on a major prison upgrade programme at Highpoint (Newmarket/Stradishall, Suffolk).
You’ll be the Electrical Site Manager on a £15m MEP package spanning new Healthcare, Combined Workshop and Kitchen buildings, plus enabling and coordination in a live secure environment.
The project (you’ll be based here)
* £15m MEP across new Healthcare, Combined Workshop and Kitchen buildings
* Healthcare (040): 25 weeks — 18 Dec 2025 to 29 Jun 2026
* Combined Workshop (042): 48 weeks — 30 Mar 2026 to 12 Mar 2027
* Kitchen (044): 42 weeks — 30 Mar 2026 to 29 Jan 2027
* Pre-con / enabling: live now through March 2026 (design reviews, surveys, procurement planning)
* Delivery model: sub-let labour and sundries; major kit supplied direct (capital plant, switchgear, luminaires, main distribution and large cables)
What you’ll be doing day-to-day
* Run electrical supervision on site: labour, sequencing, access constraints, permits, and short-interval planning
* Manage subcontract electricians and specialist vendors (containment, cabling, termination, lighting, testing/commissioning support)
* Own H&S: RAMS, permits, daily briefings, tool box talks, safe systems in a secure environment, and close-out of actions
* Drive quality control: benchmarks, ITPs, inspections, snag management, and “right-first-time” installs
* Coordinate with project team on programme and interfaces (M&E coordination, builderswork, ceilings/walls, penetrations, containment routes)
* Control materials and logistics, including receipt/issue/storage of client-supplied major equipment and cable
* Keep tight records: daily diaries, progress reporting, labour returns, QA packs, as-builts and handover support
The team / environment
You’ll be part of a structured delivery team with an Electrical PM and a Mechanical opposite number, supported by commercial/procurement functions. The contractor is a well-regarded M&E specialist with repeat work across secure estates and complex refurb / fit-out delivery, and they typically run projects with clear reporting lines and solid on-site support.
What we need from you
* Proven experience as an Electrical Site Manager / Supervisor delivering MEP projects (ideally in secure, live or controlled-access environments)
* Strong electrical installation knowledge: containment, distribution, lighting, small power, testing coordination and commissioning readiness
* SSSTS or SMSTS (SSSTS minimum)
* ECS/JIB (or equivalent trade background) — HNC/HND useful but not essential
* Comfortable running subcontract labour, managing interfaces, and pushing programme without sacrificing quality
* Able to pass relevant security / vetting requirements for a prison environment
Rate / package
* Up to £400 per day (depending on experience)
* Staying away costs covered (accommodation/subsistence in line with project policy)
* Long run of work across the phases above
