Ashington Site & Blyth Site – Northumberland
We are currently seeking Therapeutic Learning Support Assistants to join a specialist SEND school in Northumberland, with roles available at both the Ashington and Blyth sites.
This highly regarded school supports pupils primarily with Autism (ASD) alongside SEMH and communication needs, delivering a therapeutic and holistic curriculum. Learning is enriched through Forest School, sensory-based approaches, creative interventions, and close collaboration with on-site therapists and pastoral teams.
You will play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn, supporting both their emotional wellbeing and educational progress.
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
What we’re looking for
• Experience supporting children or young people, ideally within SEND, Autism, or SEMH settings
• A calm, empathetic, and trauma-informed approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Ability to provide two recent references (work-based or educational)
• A genuine commitment to inclusive, therapeutic education
• Confidence supporting pupils with emotional regulation and sensory needs
Key responsibilities
• Provide therapeutic, individualised support to pupils with Autism and additional needs
• Support emotional regulation, engagement, and positive behaviour for learning
• Work within classrooms, small groups, and 1:1 settings
• Support pupils during sensory activities, outdoor learning, and Forest School sessions
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, SLT, and on-site therapists
• Contribute to pupils’ pastoral care, helping them feel safe, understood, and valued
• Monitor progress and adapt strategies to meet individual needs
• Communicate effectively with parents and carers, sharing progress and celebrating achievements
