Our Values: We Lead The Way | We Dream Big | We Get it Done | We Innovate | We Inspire our Community Role Purpose: The role of the Nutritionist is to provide individual and team nutrition services, including individual consultation, bespoke strategies and education, to enhance the health, recovering and performance of our players. The ideal candidate is likely to be currently working with elite athletes, ideally in women’s sport and with a strong understanding of the football environment. Main Duties/ Responsibilities 1. Delivery · Provide nutritional support to players during all training sessions and games · Educate and support players, as well as produce appropriate visuals, on optimal nutrition for training, competition, return to play, recovery, weight management, hydration, immunity, travel, and performance supplementation. · Counsel and create individualised high performance and recovery nutrition plans for players. · Implement pre/post training and game day fuelling and recovery shake strategy · Develop and implement cutting-edge nutritional strategies aimed at optimising recovery and performance. · Implement team nutrition plans, including menu building, consultation on team meals and snacks based on schedule and activities, at the training facility and during away camps and fixtures. · Lead on hydration and fuelling strategy, including bespoke plans for each player. · Lead and develop fuelling stations and performance supplementation, including scheduling, procurement, ordering, receiving, and inventory. · Supervise and be present during team meals (breakfast and lunch) to guide healthy choices and ensure adherence to nutrition plans. · Oversee and approve all menus for both daily routines, team travels and matchdays. · In collaboration with the Performance and Medical staff, create and monitor off-season nutrition programmes. · Coordinate nutrition for the home facility, domestic and/or international travel – including provision throughout travelling – for individuals and the team. · Manage and mentor undergraduate student volunteers and interns. · Attend and assist with workshops, in-service meetings, professional development courses/workshops, and other development opportunities. 2. Data and assessment · Conduct nutritional assessments and screenings, including assessing and analysing dietary practices, body composition, blood profiling and energy balance in the context of athletic performance and health. · Be responsible for conducting and managing DEXA scans for all players. · Analyse all blood test results to draw nutritional conclusions that improve player health and performance. 3. Research and innovation · Research, evaluate, recommend, purchase, distribute and monitor permissible and effective nutritional supplements with attention to USADA, WADA and IOC rules, regulations and nutrition-related bylaws. · Under the guidance of the Sport Science Lead, collaborate with the Performance and Medical staff in the review, development and coordination of applied performance and medical research projects, contributing to an evolving world-leading high performance support program. · Build and foster relationships with food and supplement companies, working with the marketing team to establish partnership deals. 4. Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) · Work collaboratively with the Performance and Medical team to provide multi-disciplinary support and education by implementing and monitoring optimal female health, wellbeing, recovery, physical profiling, strength and conditioning, training and match load monitoring, nutrition, psychology, and return to play strategies. · Manage and mentor undergraduate student volunteers and interns. · Provide support and mentorship to the Academy Nutritionist 5. Other ad-hoc duties as assigned from time-to-time by management Club Accountabilities 1. To behave in a manner consistent with Club values and policies What we are looking for Qualifications and Training Any specific qualifications or technical requirements listed here will be mandated by league and/or governing body rules Essential · BSc, or equivalent qualification, in Nutrition Science or Dietetics · Master’s degree, or equivalent qualification, in Nutrition Science or Dietetics · Experience of working as a sports dietitian in a professional or comparable setting working directly with elite athletes, preferably in football · Ability to accurately measure key metrics such as body composition, hydration, sweat rate/composition and evaluate energy balance and needs · Strong knowledge of food service quality and safety procedures · Knowledge of rules and regulations relating to athlete supplements · Adequate professional liability insurance to work with and advise WSL players · EFAiF (this may be obtained once in the role) Desirable · Level 2 Food Hygiene or higher · Registered Dietician with HCPC registration or UKVRN registered Knowledge, Skills and Experience Essential · High level of knowledge of women and girls athletic populations to meet the demands of elite football · Possess exceptional organisation skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise and multitask · Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information within football departments, upholding the highest levels of professionalism at all times · Passion for innovation and growth of women’s sport · Strong creative presentation skills, with the ability to engage a range of stakeholders Desirable · Experience of developing and implementing innovative ideas and putting them into practice Characteristics · Passionate about women’s football and broader women’s sport culture. · Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to deal with matrix stakeholders & ambiguity. · High standards of personal integrity and EQ. · Comfortable and able to work on own initiative · Has a learning mindset; is keen to continue their self-development and keep up to date with best practice and learning opportunities · Continually seeks to improve efficiency and performance · Seeks out and embraces new ways of thinking and working – not afraid to fail.
