A Language Specialist will use linguistic expertise to translate and extract key information from a range of foreign materials, many of which may be technical or specialised. The role goes beyond translation – you’ll develop analytical and technical skills, apply your deep understanding of language and culture, and produce in‑depth analysis and reports that accurately inform live operations. Your work will have a significant influence on operational teams, and you’ll contribute to high‑level discussions and forums to shape our understanding of key issues.
Responsibilities
* Translate French or German materials into accurate, idiomatic English.
* Extract key information and produce analytical reports for operational teams.
* Apply communication technologies and analytical techniques to support live operations.
* Collaborate with a thriving language community to share expertise and support development.
* Contribute to high‑level discussions, forums, and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
* Proficiency in French or German at CEFR C1 level or higher (reading, writing, speaking, listening).
* Deep cultural understanding of France, Germany and the regions where the languages are spoken, including culture, history, religion, and politics.
* Fluency in English and ability to translate French or German into accurate, idiomatic English.
* Strong analytical skills and curiosity; detail‑oriented and able to piece together complex information.
* High motivation and commitment to work for the UK intelligence agencies; pass the official language tests.
* Preferred: fluency in other modern foreign languages.
* British citizenship or dual British nationality; readiness to obtain Developed Vetting security clearance.
