Overview

The Financial Reporting Council’s (FRC) purpose is to serve the public interest and support UK economic growth by upholding high standards of corporate governance, corporate reporting and audit, and actuarial work. We are the UK Competent Authority for statutory audit. We also set the UK Corporate Governance and Stewardship Codes as well as UK standards for accounting, statutory audit and actuarial work, and monitor and take action to promote the quality of corporate reporting. We operate independent enforcement arrangements for accountants and actuaries. Further information about our role can be found at www.frc.org.uk.

The Legal Services Team advises across the FRC including the FRC's Executive, Board and Committees.


The Role

The Role:

The role involves supporting the Director of Legal Services:

* In the delivery of high quality, timely and client-oriented legal advice to internal clients under the supervision of the Senior Lawyers and the Director of Legal Services.
* Through being an effective member of the Legal Services Team, supporting delivery of the team's and the FRC's objectives.
* Identifying, escalating and mitigating legal risk issues, as appropriate.
* Working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to identify and implement ways to best deliver strategic and policy objectives.
* Effectively managing internal and external stakeholder relationships.


Minimum requirements

* A solicitor or barrister qualified to practise in England & Wales.
* Demonstrable experience in regulatory, and/or public law is essential.
* The ability to proactively manage workloads and competing priorities.
* Demonstrable experience of communicating with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a clear, concise and comprehensible manner.
* Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with others at all levels, within and across teams is essential.


Desirable

* Experience of working within or advising a compliance function in a regulatory or public sector environment.
* Demonstrable experience in any one or more of the following practice areas: competition law, information law, litigation, and/or corporate and commercial law.
* Experience of working on projects and legislative change programmes.
* Advising as part of an in-house legal team.
* Demonstrable experience of instructing and managing external counsel.
* An interest in the legal and policy frameworks that affect the work of the FRC, with a willingness to develop specialist knowledge in these areas.
