Salary: circa £45,000 + Benefits + Travel Payments
Prime Appointments are working with a leading engineering services provider supporting heavy industry sectors including Energy, Power Generation, Refinery, Aggregates and Utilities. They are looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Service Technician to join their field service team.
This role involves extensive UK site-based work, with approximately 90% of client sites within an hour's travel. The remainder will involve wider UK travel and occasional working away when required.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer, Service Engineer, Field Service Technician or Rotating Equipment Engineer with strong hands-on experience in heavy engineering and rotating machinery.
The Role
As a Mechanical Service Technician, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair and overhaul of rotating and static equipment across customer sites and workshop environments.
You will work both independently and as part of a team, supporting planned maintenance shutdowns, outages and reactive breakdown work across critical industrial assets.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out mechanical maintenance, repair and overhaul of rotating equipment including pumps and large turbines
Service and maintain auxiliary and balance of plant (BOP) equipment
Diagnose faults and carry out corrective repairs on industrial machinery
Perform alignment, measurement and inspection using precision tools (micrometers, alignment tooling, etc.)
Complete detailed service reports including findings, condition assessments and recommendations
Support planned outages, shutdowns and project work at customer sites
Carry out fault finding, defect diagnosis and preventative maintenance activities
Manage workload effectively and prioritise site-based tasks
Work in accordance with health, safety and site regulations at all times
Occasional UK travel and working away from home as required
Skills & Experience Required
Mechanical engineering qualification (ONC, HNC, NVQ or equivalent) essential
Proven experience in mechanical fault finding, repair, installation and commissioning
Strong knowledge of rotating equipment such as pumps, turbines and compressors
Experience within heavy engineering sectors such as power generation, energy or industrial processing
OEM experience with pumps or turbines highly advantageous
Strong understanding of measurement, alignment and mechanical diagnostics
Ability to produce accurate technical reports and documentation
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or within a team
Full UK driving licence (clean preferred)
Must be eligible to pass security clearance checks
Willingness to participate in a 1-in-5 callout rota
