Practice Development (PDM) Midwife

The Practice Development (PDM) Midwife is a proactive midwifery leader, teacher, and role model hosted by the Family Health Division to work across NUH maternity services. The role involves developing best practices related to student midwifery practice education to ensure their success in achieving professional registration upon completing their training.

The PDM leads the development of excellence in practice education for student midwives and other learners, ensuring high-quality education and preparation for assessments with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. They are accountable for supporting students and learners during clinical placements, including delivering a robust student induction process.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring compliance with the NMC Standards Framework for nursing and midwifery education, facilitating effective theory and practice learning and assessments. They will respond to changing national and regulatory guidance, ensuring clinical educators, practice assessors, and supervisors are well-equipped and supported. The PDM will be a visible clinical leader, accessible to education leads, midwifery leaders, and practice assessors.

They will address individual learning needs, provide high-quality training aligned with NMC guidance, and involve education leads and senior midwives in developing, delivering, and evaluating practice learning. Leading by example, they will drive up standards of midwifery education, ensuring quality in experience, well-being, and pastoral support. The PDM will collaborate with regulatory bodies and HEI partners to maintain robust governance systems, uphold high standards, and enhance NUH's reputation as an education provider and employer of choice.

The role includes providing leadership, advice, and support to foster a learning culture that values high-quality patient care, evidence-based practice, research, and innovation. The PDM will work with regional education leads, trust practice development midwives, senior midwives, and department managers to share best practices and implement strategies that improve student and staff satisfaction, retention, recruitment, and multidisciplinary teamwork. They will ensure the highest standards of education, research, and clinical care are maintained and evaluated regularly.
