Healthcare Security Officer
Grade: NHS AfC: Band 3
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 42 hours per week, 4 on 4 off shift pattern rotating days to nights
Location: University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, Leicester
Key Responsibilities
* Provide a visible security presence on all hospital sites and deliver a polite, efficient and compassionate service to patients, visitors and staff.
* Monitor CCTV and other security systems in compliance with data protection policies.
* Record all security incidents and complete appropriate documentation by computer and/or paper.
* Respond to challenging or traumatic incidents, using verbal and non‑verbal communication skills and physical restraint or escort where necessary.
* Assist with fire alarm procedures and the arming/disarming of intruder alarms.
* Respond to medical and critical alarms, alert relevant staff and coordinate emergency situations.
* Detain patients at the request and under the guidance of clinical personnel when legally and clinically required.
* Maintain high standards of customer service and effective communication with patients, visitors and staff.
Training & Qualifications
* Good spoken, reading and writing English.
* Valid UK manual driving licence.
* SIA licence or equivalent formal training.
* Understanding of health and safety standards.
* Recording and reporting skills, use of monitoring systems.
Experience
* Knowledge of NHS services and the ability to work in a hospital environment.
* Experience working within a team and to contractual terms.
* Experience dealing with altered or aggressive behaviour and de‑escalation.
Required Skills
* Clear communication, empathy and assertiveness.
* Ability to handle high‑pressure situations and physical intervention.
* Basic IT skills, use of radio and telephone.
* Organisation, prioritising tasks and maintaining alertness.

Working Hours and Shift Pattern
The role involves 12‑hour shifts covering days and nights, rotating at each site (LRI, LGH, GGH). Full training will be provided.
